MONSTER
(AKA Monster-iffic)
This is one special guy! Measured at
just a hair over 17 hands, he is ONE
BIG BOY! Gentle as a lamb, and oh so
sweet, he has a wonderful disposition.
Monster has quickly become a much
loved member of our horse family,
and everyone who meets him thinks
he is a very lovely animal with a
dash of high quality about him.

Penny putting Monster through his paces during a spring training session outdoors.

Although he was mainly broke to drive when he
joined us here, I kept him over the winter at
a local riding stable with an indoor arena and we
were amazed at how quickly he learned the ropes
of being a good riding horse. Having been in parades
when he was driving,
Monster is oh so quiet to ride.
His unflappable temperament makes everyone
feel pretty safe on his big frame - oddly enough!
Monster
really suits the English discipline, but his
biggest issue with changeover to riding horse mode
was that at ten years old - he couldnt' canter! Driving
horses are not required to canter, so it's no surprise.
It didn' take long - and after some really interesting
training techniques, we got the big boy going and
in April, Penny showed Monster at his first dressage
show! He nailed his canter transitions in both tests
(although they could have used a bit more finesse)
and so we are thrilled with how quick he learns his
stuff. Stay tuned for more from the big boy - and
if you come to camp you'll see he really is TERRIFIC!
