WINTER CAMPING is a BLAST!

Dec - April

Meadowlark #5 is open year round with a high-efficiency direct-vent furnace and a woodstove. Cabins 1 & 2 have heat and open in April. Cabins have outdoor toilets so bring slip-on boots.  Guests cook on the outside grill. Cabin features good solar lights and Meadowlark #5 has plenty of indoor space. Nature lovers will discover it’s the finest season if they come prepared to enjoy our 8 kms of groomed cross country ski and snowshoe trails. Plenty of parking for snowmobilers, wo are always welcome. The cabin sleeps 6-8 people with lots of room for gear and extra guests.

Best reason to visit now? Snowy but hikeable trails that mark the path of all the woodland creatures. Snowmobile trails. And of course, there’s no bugs!

April - May

A breathtaking time of year up here as the animals are waking up and you are more likely to see wildlife. The trails are snowy but walkable, so bring boots or your snowshoes. Black flies start mid-late May.

Guests cook on the outside grill. Cabins 1, 2 and 5 have heat and stay toasty.

April can bring snow. If the trail is blocked and you check in during daylight hours, we transport you and your gear via tracked vehicle. Later check ins will use the provided sleigh to bring in gear. You’ll want warm sleeping bags, toques, and cabin slippers to stay comfy at night. Trails often open mid-May.

Best reason to visit now? There’s lots of trails to hike and the wildlife is on the move, so you might get lucky and spot critters! (and no bugs yet, lol)

June - Aug

Early June is mild but its up to 29 degrees by the end. Black flies die out and deer flies and pesky mosquitoes appear then. Check the lists for helpful hints. We set up a screen tent for all cabins.

It’s very warm in June and July which is why we provide a 6″ fan. Bring 2 D-cell batteries as it’s handy for sleeping at night.

Happily, this is premium swimming weather, and we are close to 3 fantastic beaches with many more in the area, plus tons of fishing and canoe lakes.

Visit Algonquin Park, or check the Bancroft & Barry’s Bay Events calendar for things to do while here.

Best reason to visit now? Lakes are super warm and swimmable, and there’s local events all summer. There’s nothing more fun than summer in Ontario.

Sept - Nov

Cabins are fully accessible unless we get a freak snowstorm in November. Quick storms normally don’t affect cabin access and we’ll assist if needed.

Guests cook on the outside grill. Cabins 1, 2 and 5 have heat and stay toasty.

We close Cabin 3 & 4 after Thanksgiving, but keep Cabins 1 & 2 open until mid-Nov as their heaters are efficient and work down to minus 10.

Meadowlark #5 is four seasons and well-insulated with a fantastic off-grid heater and woodstove. It’s roomy and perfect for groups who want a more comfy version of cold weather camping.

Best reason to visit? Fall colors, and once everyone leaves, the animals come out to play! You may even see our resident wolves.

Ontario Cabin Rentals...

Each cabin is slightly different, and located in a different clearing on our property. See the map in the slide show for general locations—the clearings are 5 minutes apart, so great for large family gatherings, yet far enough away for privacy.

The shower pictured is Meadowlark #5 and is similar to the showers at the bunkie cabins. We’re excited to announce a shower house coming in 2026!

Coming in the fall? The Sword Motor Inn in Bancroft allows outside guests to use the pool/shower facilities for a small fee from 9 am-9 pm daily. (see image)
